A Jack Hawkness update I didn’t want to have to make, a shopping trip to Wally world that helped to cheer me up, and random thoughts about packing house.
First a bit of sad news. Captain Jack Hawkness is no more. I never even got an email, just pointed towards their update journal. Here’s what they said:
August 24, 2009 -- On June 25, a Red-tailed Hawk testing positive for West Nile Virus had been admitted to the wildlife center. Although his condition was no longer life-threatening, after two months, he was still unwilling or unable to eat on his own. Twice each day he was force fed. Twice each day he fought the procedure for all he was worth. We had tried feeding him once a day, but he vomited the larger quantity of food (a "normal" bird would have tolerated that quantity). While it is possible at some point in the future, the hawk would begin to take food when offered, there was no guarantee that would be the case. After careful consideration and consultation with Dr. Jeff Cooney, the hawk was euthanized.
Now first let me say this: I realize that rescue work is busy and largely underpaid BUT I am upset and so am not required to be rational and understanding.
I read that and they might as well have told me “Well he’s not really in danger of dying, but we’ve grown tired of taking care of him so we just killed him off.”
Maybe at some point I’ll be a bigger person and thank them for trying, but for right now I’m actually a bit pissed off. It doesn’t help that the stupid part of my brain wanted to think maybe they should have made sure he was going to stay dead. Jack promises to always come back, damn it. My stupid sense of humor even hurts my own feelings sometimes.
RIP Captain Jack Hawkness, I’ll miss you and I’m sad I never got to see them free you :(

Now on to happier matters, because just typing that made sad all over again and crying over a bird that wasn’t even a pet is pathetic, even for me….
Not that it mattersBECAUSE I’M STILL TRAPPED IN A BLOODY BROOM CUPBOARD but I haven’t been online that much today. After work Japonica Sue (Nicky? You have too many names, maybe I’ll just use them all) and I went to Walmart for shopping fun with JoeBot. Our trip started by my missing the exit to avoid the road construction. Oops. Total accident, really. (BUT never let it be said I can’t show a girl a good time Sue– everyone else: don’t ask). Here are a couple other highlights:
See JoeBot hugging that can? It’s because this chili is Jack and Ianto approved – NO BEANS. You’ll notice is the giant mammajammer can, there won’t be any beans in sight for a long time. Can you see him scowling at all the cans of beans in that aisle?

This one is just for you
kittiword! I told you that we thought of you while shopping. See what Nicky found for you? Which Red Bull would you prefer? The teeny tiny one or the other? Do you think they taste different? Does size really matter? (oh yeah I went there)

I’ve started making a list of the questions I have asked myself while packing
-How sad is it that I have a wine glass collection, but do not actually drink wine? (Sue says it’s funny)
--Why is it you never break the crap stuff? Do you think I could have dropped a shot glass on the cheap wine glass? Oh no. I had to drop it 2 inches to the left and break the stem of the pretty hand painted one Carmen gave me. And now it’s not even a pair. I hate that!
-If I can’t remember who gave me the “good friend” coffee mug is it safe to get rid of it? I would call the mug tacky, but I live in fear that the forgotten gift giver would hear and be offended.
-How can a tiny cabinet fill two boxes? Do my cabinets have TARDIS like qualities or am I just that bad a packer?
-WHERE HAVE ALL THESE SPIDERS COME FROM?! WTF!
I have also noticed I spend equal amounts of time saying “Why isn’t it October yet?” And “OMG it’s almost October, I’ve get to get going.” Time – Hurry up or slow down. Damned if I know which I want, but the flipping back and forth is making me crazy.
