patelyne: (good times)
A Jack Hawkness update I didn’t want to have to make, a shopping trip to Wally world that helped to cheer me up, and random thoughts about packing house.

First a bit of sad news. Captain Jack Hawkness is no more. I never even got an email, just pointed towards their update journal. Here’s what they said:

August 24, 2009 -- On June 25, a Red-tailed Hawk testing positive for West Nile Virus had been admitted to the wildlife center. Although his condition was no longer life-threatening, after two months, he was still unwilling or unable to eat on his own. Twice each day he was force fed. Twice each day he fought the procedure for all he was worth. We had tried feeding him once a day, but he vomited the larger quantity of food (a "normal" bird would have tolerated that quantity). While it is possible at some point in the future, the hawk would begin to take food when offered, there was no guarantee that would be the case. After careful consideration and consultation with Dr. Jeff Cooney, the hawk was euthanized.

Now first let me say this: I realize that rescue work is busy and largely underpaid BUT I am upset and so am not required to be rational and understanding.

I read that and they might as well have told me “Well he’s not really in danger of dying, but we’ve grown tired of taking care of him so we just killed him off.”

Maybe at some point I’ll be a bigger person and thank them for trying, but for right now I’m actually a bit pissed off. It doesn’t help that the stupid part of my brain wanted to think maybe they should have made sure he was going to stay dead. Jack promises to always come back, damn it. My stupid sense of humor even hurts my own feelings sometimes.

RIP Captain Jack Hawkness, I’ll miss you and I’m sad I never got to see them free you :(

----

Now on to happier matters, because just typing that made sad all over again and crying over a bird that wasn’t even a pet is pathetic, even for me….

Not that it mattersBECAUSE I’M STILL TRAPPED IN A BLOODY BROOM CUPBOARD but I haven’t been online that much today. After work Japonica Sue (Nicky? You have too many names, maybe I’ll just use them all) and I went to Walmart for shopping fun with JoeBot. Our trip started by my missing the exit to avoid the road construction. Oops. Total accident, really. (BUT never let it be said I can’t show a girl a good time Sue– everyone else: don’t ask). Here are a couple other highlights:

See JoeBot hugging that can? It’s because this chili is Jack and Ianto approved – NO BEANS. You’ll notice is the giant mammajammer can, there won’t be any beans in sight for a long time. Can you see him scowling at all the cans of beans in that aisle?

This one is just for you [livejournal.com profile] kittiword! I told you that we thought of you while shopping. See what Nicky found for you? Which Red Bull would you prefer? The teeny tiny one or the other? Do you think they taste different? Does size really matter? (oh yeah I went there)

-----

I’ve started making a list of the questions I have asked myself while packing

-How sad is it that I have a wine glass collection, but do not actually drink wine? (Sue says it’s funny)
--Why is it you never break the crap stuff? Do you think I could have dropped a shot glass on the cheap wine glass? Oh no. I had to drop it 2 inches to the left and break the stem of the pretty hand painted one Carmen gave me. And now it’s not even a pair. I hate that!

-If I can’t remember who gave me the “good friend” coffee mug is it safe to get rid of it? I would call the mug tacky, but I live in fear that the forgotten gift giver would hear and be offended.

-How can a tiny cabinet fill two boxes? Do my cabinets have TARDIS like qualities or am I just that bad a packer?

-WHERE HAVE ALL THESE SPIDERS COME FROM?! WTF!

I have also noticed I spend equal amounts of time saying “Why isn’t it October yet?” And “OMG it’s almost October, I’ve get to get going.” Time – Hurry up or slow down. Damned if I know which I want, but the flipping back and forth is making me crazy.

The vets wanted to put my bunny to sleep a few months ago. (It was, from their POV, a reasonable call - since every other rabbit they've seen this year with the same condition died and his headtilt was pretty severe, as in anything I could find online about rabbits with that much of a tilt had recommendations for how to keep them upright and instructions for force feeding.) I'm glad I decided to give him another chance to keep going with the medicine. Had to give it to him in a syringe every morning which he wasn't particularly fond of either but somehow it actually worked. They called him a miracle bunny yesterday. :D And now he's sleeping under my chair.

I'm happy it worked out so well for your bunny, he is absolutely adorable :)

I wish they had even given me a choice. It was just 'oh yeah we killed your hawk last week', okay maybe not that blunt and maybe a wild animal can't actually be mine BUT STILL. If I knew they were going to give up I would have asked the one lady at the other clinic if she would please try and take him back (she only sent him to the clinic in Oregon because she had trouble with the IV and he hadn't needed that for a while)

*squishes you*

That's one sturdy broom cupboard!

Wish me luck; I have to go to some stupid benefits appointment. D:

The broom cupboard of doom! And Jeannie seems to be the only one trying all that hard to free us. I might just have to hug her. I wonder what she'll make of that...

Good luck with the stupid benefits appointment, hope it isn't too frustrating and goes your way *hugs back*

I tried! I'm just a kind of useless Torchwood agent. Not teaboy ninja, like Ianto. I'm only really suited to filing and desperation-attacks.

It's all your fault. You made it sound like checking on Hank in there would be a good idea. See what happened? Now I'm going to have to appreciate Jeannie *exaggerated sigh*

No, I don't have any kids. That beautiful boy belongs to [livejournal.com profile] tardistenantsue (she's the one holding the cans of Red Bull)

Date: 2009-09-04 02:29 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] mrsalemp.livejournal.com
He was the poster child of pretty birds (Could he have been the Face of Boe? If Boeshane were full of hawks that is?)

I need to start taking more pictures again. This weekend for sure, maybe even one of me (But probably not, I hate pics of myself)

Isn't it great? Let me think where I got that icon hmmm.... Oh yes you had [livejournal.com profile] seether_79 make them (you are both awesome!) This one is my favorite :)

Thank you, that's very sweet to say :)

I took a picture of the cornfield the other night actually. Took it from my back steps, see how close the field is?

Image (http://s359.photobucket.com/albums/oo31/mrsalemp/?action=view&current=DSCN1827.jpg)

Okay maybe a picture of me, but no promises.

You should be proud, and I wish I had found the pic while you were still posting the story! This is another reason you HAVE to continue it :)

Go get some sleep! How is the job going?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Date: 2009-09-04 06:02 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] kittiword.livejournal.com
Now that was a long NOoo.. Do I dare to ask why?

The shot red bull packs quite a.. punch shall we say, but the bigger one is lovely for sipping in between stuff :D

Aww bless on Joebot and LOL about beans.

Sorry about Jack Hawkness... sounds like Amand-r's reenactment with the birds should have been done the other way around!

LOL about packing and breaking stuff, its called Murphy's Law.

Date: 2009-09-04 06:07 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] amand-r.livejournal.com
::sob:: Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!

Date: 2009-09-04 06:14 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] kittiword.livejournal.com
That is understandable, but he will be remembered by all of us, yeah?

In all seriousness, I am sorry Patti. When you rescue an animal, even if it doesn't be your pet, you do form an attachment.

Date: 2009-09-04 01:01 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] mrsalemp.livejournal.com
Now Jack can't remember Ianto for a thousand years, which made me laugh/cry. Seriously, what is wrong with me? I did want to keep him, he was an excellent yard guard.

Date: 2009-09-04 12:58 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] mrsalemp.livejournal.com
Jack and Ianto are both gone now :(

Date: 2009-09-04 01:13 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] mrsalemp.livejournal.com
I had never seen such tiny Red Bull!

Isn't Joebot just adorable? I could squeeze him to pieces (and then give him back once he started to cry)

Or maybe I should have gotten a Hart bird, he would have been to stubborn to die.

I'm going to work harder on breaking the stuff I don't like, but not the ugly flower pot. I'm being really careful with that until I drop off the donations :D
