So, it’s been checks last post about six years...how’s things? Anyone still here? Hello? Empty void? Is that you?

I decided to at least get my account access back here because Tumblr has decided to dial it’s dumpster fire up from 11 to ... somewhere around infinity plus. I’ve seen some people saying they were going to head back this direction if everything goes female-presenting-nipples up there, and it looks like where things are headed. And quickly.

Honestly I prefer pillowfort (mainly for the way communities work) BUT they’re already dealing with downtime and I don’t see a massive influx of users helping server issues any...sooo here I am. Kind of. At least for a bit?

This whole mess has me feeling old as hell tbh
I’m tired of moving platforms and starting over, but I’m not sure what else there is to do.

At least this is familiar, hey? pillowfort is sort of up again now, but I'm struggling to work out how it all works, atm.

And yeah, it’s good that this is familiar, even if I do have to do a little extra thinking now and then. I think of pillowfort as tumblr’s and dreamwidth’s secret lovechild. Most of the posting and commenting style from here but the sharing and ability to just <3 something from tumblr. Plus I liked that if I share a post in a community it automatically redirects to my blog so all the comments and likes stick together. Here the posts to groups were like brand new separate posts. Unless it’s changed since I left? That would be a nice surprise.

I probably should do some more old post housekeeping, but I can’t be bothered atm. Bonus - I can look back at my last post from years ago and still see a wip I never finished. Whoops.

Oh, I KNOW I have WIPs that old, I don't need a blog to remind me! I have to get back to my epic Rings of Change blanket. I put it away in January to make charity blanket squares because it was too damn hot to work on in summer, and never quite got back to it.

If you can think of any hacks to help with usability on pillowfort, as you work it out yourself, I'd be grateful for the instruction. My focus is so bad, I find something, and then later, I have to find it allover again because I've forgotten where it was.

My biggest issue when I first started on pillowfort was realizing I couldn’t see my activity dashboard thing from my blog, at least on mobile. I’m mostly tablet or phone only these days.
Like when you’re looking at your own page the little arrow drops down your side bar with profile info and how many posts you have. You have to hit the P in the corner to get to the main feed and then the arrow thing shows you your followers/following, messages, replies, etc plus how you make posts and find people/groups. Then to get back to your page you have to click your name where is says ‘logged in as’
It took me Too Many days to realize why I couldn’t always find the right box, and I still think it’s a little weird I can’t get there from my own page. It seems a little clunky...if any of this makes sense

Yeah, Emma's mostly on her mobile these days, too, so she booted up her computer for the first time in MONTHS yesterday (So many updates.) I never really transitioned from laptop to a mobile device,so it's okay for me.

Wish I had more help to offer than ‘p will take you home where most things are, but home is your feed not your own blog’ But is kind of just threw myself in and figured out where to go bit by bit. Joining communities helped, once I realized where the search bar was to look for them.

As for where to find people, the knitting and fiber arts comes I have linked in my ‘about me’ are fairly active. The marvel and 221b seem to go in spurts of posts. I’ve probably found the most people by seeing who all is commenting on posts that I share in comms or on the other posts that I’ve commented on.

I’m hoping the fandom side picks up more now, but even with it quieter I’ve liked the artist side.

Yeah, the way to go seems to be more engaged and active than I've been in years, which is necessary and important, but is going to take a lot of effort.

Meant to say - I loved what I saw of your rings of change, but I can totally see where it would get way too hot to work under!

Yeah, we had highs of 47C last summer. I imagine we'll get more of the same this year.

Way way way too hot for giant blankets. I think that’s even beating our past summer.
They’re predicting a cold winter here, so as soon as the holiday knits are done I should probably think about pulling out the 10-stitch blanket again.

I had been talking about getting back in to posting for my own sake before all of this. If other people are around and there are people to talk to it would make things a lot easier but I doubt it will stick. It's happened before and people drift off again. I'll make the most of it while I can I guess.
Problem is I open tabs to reply and don't have the brain to do it and then end up shutting them because it's been ages and it's a bit weird now.

I want to keep better track of things though and it's much easier to look back at my journal than my twitter. I'm still very active on twitter but I just write random shit.

Biggest issue is I can use twitter from my phone but I have to be well enough to sit up and turn my computer on to get on Dreamwidth or Pillowfort properly.

Trying to get up the energy to back up all my art and put it up on a private server and get it posted on Ao3 or something. I'm always so tired and there are so many things I need to do.

I'll try Pillowfort again. I think I just need more people to follow or something. I just found that nothing was moving. I checked it and checked it again 3 days later and couldn't find anything new. May have just been me not knowing where to look

It’s hard to guess where everyone will end up migrating (if they do) when I’m not even sure where I’ll end up. I’d rather not move at all, but it’s really not looking good for tumblr right now.
I’ve never been great at Twitter, and right now anytime I use it is either political things making me angry or hockey. So i’m not exactly a fun person to follow, I’m sure.
Every wave of users makes pillowfort a little busier, but I don’t know that they’ll reach Proper Busy until after they exit beta. I could be wrong though. I’d like to be wrong!
