Scrapbook Page On Canvas (Emily - For Laurie and Albert)

Here’s a page I did of my niece-to-be when she was over at our house one day last summer. Not only is this my first try on making a scrapbook page on canvas, this is also the first time I’ve tried to take a picture of a page to post it. Strangely enough I had more trouble with that part than I did taking the pictures to put on the page itself!

I made this as a gift for my fiancé’s brother and his wife. Their daughter is so hard to get nice (normal) shots of because she’s always pulling faces, so when I do take good pictures of Emily I always make them an 8x10 scrapbook page. She doesn’t scrap herself, but Laurie loves the look of the pages (or at least she is kind enough to tell me she does). The pages usually end up framed and hung on their walls, I've tried to get her to start a book of her own, but no luck yet.
I saw a page someone else had done on a canvas here, and thought that this would be the perfect gift for them (even if it is a little late, I haven’t made a page for them in months!).
I used a 12x12 canvas and spray glued the paper to it. For the edging around the canvas I used green ribbon that I hammered brads through to hold it in place. I know the color doesn’t look quite right in the pics, but it’s actually the same color that I used as picture mattes (the camera flash makes it look brighter for some reason)

Another first for me on this one – stitching on paper. I couldn’t find the perfect thread color I liked so I bought some blue and some cream embroidery floss, separated the stands into halves and twisted them together. I really liked how this turned out, except at the bottom I should probably have done the stitching before attaching the paper to the canvas because the wooden supports meant I couldn’t go any further out to the side.

The butterfly in the upper right is chipboard that I attached with a few Zots. I spread a few paper flowers with brads around the whole page. That’s pretty much it – here’s how the whole thing turned out:

I’m giving it to them this weekend, and I’m hoping that they like it. It’s almost hard to give away, I’ve gotten kind of attached to it!
